MURANO VENINI FAZZOLETTO
1948 / 1950.
This is an outstanding Venini - Murano glass
bowl dating back to around 1950. Italian Art glass produced on the islands of
Murano in the lagoon of Venice has fascinated the whole world for more than
500 years and rose to world leadership in the production of decorative glass
The origins of glassmaking in the Venetian lagoon, date back much further,
their roots lying in the Roman manufacturing tradition on the nearby mainland.
During the 1950s, Murano was a magnet for artists and designers from other
countries. They sought inspiration and technical understanding of the
glassmaker's art, and left to apply their knowledge & spread the new
aesthetic of glass all over the planet.
This lovely bowl is a wonderful example of why Murano glass is so tremendously
popular until today. This bowl features beautiful white inclusions in the hand
blown glass and an expressive wavy rim. This particular style is known as
Fazzoletto which actually means handkerchief and refers to its typical shape.
