color woodblock print by Suzuki Harunobu (1725-1770). Shunga
(Erotic print). Date: c.1760s.
Chuban size: 6" x 9 1/3". Very good impression,
good colors and poor condition. Wear and soiling, centerfold,
several small wormholes, backed. Wonderful gauffrage details to
the pillow and blanket in the background.
The young monk's body has been printed in flesh tones using a
metallic pigment that has since oxidized,
creating darkened areas and imbuing the figure with texture (the
head).
