A magnificent and rare toy-print with a very humorous design depicting multi-levelled activities. Look for the many funny details such as the man holding his nose while the embarrassed corpulent woman uses a fan to hide her face ! The black & white cat running down the stairs with a fish in his mouth is Kuniyoshi's hidden signature !

The designs from this shunga series by Kunisada are treated in many books on shunga such as 'Japanese Erotic Fantasies' by C.Uhlenbeck and M. Winkel, 'Shunga, the Erotic Art of Japan' by M. Fagioli....etc. The apppeal of the prints lay in the clarity of the imagery, which is not cluttered by surrounding blocks of texts. Series: 'Nyogo no Shima (Takara) Irifune' (The Island of Women and the Treasure Ship). Fine impression, colors and very good condition. Some minor wrinkling, very minor wormage (margins only!), minor marks and flaws otherwise in a very good state! Kunimaro was a very talented student of Kunisada and a master of Kunimaro II and is considered to be one of the most important shunga artists of the late Edo period !
