Original antique Japanese color woodblock attributed to Utagawa Kunisada (1786–1865). Date: c.1840s. 
Size: 11” x 9 1/4” inches. Fine impression (with gauffrage and gold and silver metallic pigments), 
color and very good condition. Two small wormhole repairs (margin only). Minor wear and soiling, marks and flaws.

“A detailed scene portraying a man sleeping off his hangover lying behind a mosquito net while his cheating partner is making love in another part of the room. The drool from the mouth of the drunkard, his heavily tattooed upper arms and the fallen sake bowl betray the great attention to details and empathy of the artist.”

“An unusual design with the image divided by a diagonal line portraying two scenes. The below image features a hard-working author who is making love to a vigorous female. The upper image depicts a street scene which very well could be the authors’ thoughts or displaying his writings.”

“A nice interior scene of a brothel with an oiran (high-class courtesan), standing with her back to the viewer, as the central figure of the image standing on the top of the stairs. She is surrounded by other colleagues and young servants (kamuro). In the background through the transparant walls one can see the silhouettes of partying courtesans and their clients.”
