Date: c.1760s. Size: 12 1/5” x 9 3/4” inches. Very good impression, color and condition. Backing. 
Minor wear and soiling, marks and flaws but in a wonderful state!

Settei was a very important and influential shunga artist in the pre-Harunobu era.

Original antique Japanese color woodblock by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). Shunga (Erotic print).
Date: c.1810. Oban yoko-e size: 15” x 10 1/8” inches. Series: ‘Azuma nishiki (Brocades of the East)’.
Fine impression (with metallic pigments), very good color and near fine condition. Virtually full size.
Minor marks and flaws. Very nice state overall.

Original antique Japanese color woodblock by Keisai Eisen (1790-1848). Shunga (Erotic print). Date: c.1825-28.
Oban yoko-e size: 14 1/5” x 10 1/5” inches. Series: ‘Grass On the Way Of Love (Koi no Michikusa).
Fine impression (with metallic pigments), very good color and condition. Slight vertical centerfold, very slightly trimmed, thin backing, minor marks and flaws.

“On a sultry summer afternoon, a pair are about to take their pleasure on top of the man’s black and white plaid kimono on the porch near a garden. A stone water basin with a bamboo scoop can be seen in the background.”

Gian Carlo Calza on this design: “... In the second print, two lovers lie half-naked on the veranda surrounded by a garden, their light cotton kimono (yukata) and a round fan on the ground reveal that it is summer.”

Another impression of this design is in the collection of the Honolulu Museum of Art.

Original antique Japanese color woodblock attributed to Kitagawa Utamaro (1754-1806). Shunga (Erotic print).
Date: c.1786.Aiban yoko-e size: 12 2/3” x 8 3/4” inches. Fine impression, very good color and near fine condition.
Full size. Very minor marks and flaws only. Very nice state overall.

“A young girl on an outing is waylaid by a robber. She hides her face in shame and in the background a man, perhaps her manservant, flees. The aiban format becomes fashionable around this time. Forrer (2004: 178) points out that the aiban format was virtually absent from Kiyonaga’s oeuvre, whereas it constituted the second most important format in the work of Utamaro. It is possible that the aiban in illustrations 32 to 34 are part of the same set, but this has yet to be confirmed (Chris Uhenbeck).”

In the past this design has been attributed to Katsukawa Shuncho (act. c.1780s-early 1800s). The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (the most important in the Netherlands) has another impression with the robber wearing a red jacket of this design in their collection.

Very slightly backed. Series: ‘Erotic Book of Conjugal Eddies (Ehon futamigata)’. Wonderful state!

“One of the great classic erotic designs in ukiyo-e featuring a fascinatingly shocking rape scene with a roguish ninja terrorizing a tied up couple.”

There’s some debate concerning the attribution of the series between the two great masters Utamaro and Hokusai.

Original antique Chinese erotic reverse glass painting by an unknown master artist. Date: c.1850s. 
Size diameter ca. 4 2/5” inches. Ca. 8” x 7” inches (including frame). Unsigned like all Chinese erotic paintings.
Very good colors and condition. A small burst in the lower part but otherwise in a wonderful state!

“A superbly refined Chinese artwork portraying an intimate threesome involving young participants (look at the delicate faces!). The male has his plaits curled on the top of his shaved head. The frame gives the scene a voyeuristic focus.”
