Dutch
Village Scene
Oil Painting On Panel ( v.b./Follower Johannes Franciscus
Spohler ).
Description:
A fine oil painting depicting a Dutch village and canal ( v.b.
/ Follower Johannes Franciscus Spohler ).
The painting depicts figures in a traditional Dutch town
scene with a canal running through and detailed buildings.
The painting has been done with a bold palette concentrating on
topographical accuracy and rendering the effects of light to
stunning effect. ca.1940-1950. The painting is in very
fine condition with minor imperfections in places that do
not detract.
Museum
Certificate of Authenticity.
This
superb work measures:
Painting - 19cm (7.5") x 24cm (9.5")
Frame - 31cm (12") x 37cm (14.5")
Johannes Franciscus
Spohler was a Dutch landscape painter born in 1853, the son of
the well-known landscape artist Jan Jacob
Spohler and a brother to Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler who was
also an artist. He learnt his fine technique from the
accomplished
painter of town views, Cornelis Springer (1817-1891). Small
images on mahogany panel speak of fine draughtsmanship,
carrying a
strong feeling of traditional Dutch landscape painting. His
delicate palette unites the intense sensitivity of typical
Dutch scenes with
stunning light effects, giving a delightful insight into life
of that time. His father, Jan Jacob Spohler, died when
Johannes Franciscus
was only thirteen-years old, so it is likely he, unlike his
sixteen-year older brother Jan Jacob Coenraad, never had
lessons from him.
This absence of a paternal painting influence is possibly why
Johannes Franciscus chose a different genre to that of his
father and
brother. He concentrated on painting historicist city and
village scenes with figures instead of summer landscapes and
winter scenes.
His oeuvre was inspired by that of the grand master in the
field, Cornelis Springer, with his depictions of narrow
streets of Old-Dutch
houses, populated with all kinds of people busily engaged in
all kinds of activity. Spohler’s work is represented in
various leading
museums.

Battle
of Trafalgar 1805
Original 20th Century Framed Watercolour by Kenneth W Burton.
Description:
This original atmospheric watercolour by Kenneth Burton
depicts a scene from the Battle of Trafalgar, fought on 21
October 1805, was part of the War of the Third Coalition
assembled by Britain against France. It was the most
significant naval battle of the Napoleonic Wars and the
pivotal naval battle of the 19th century. A Royal Navy fleet
of 27 ships of the line destroyed an allied French and Spanish
fleet of 33 ships of the line west of Cape Trafalgar in
south-west Spain. The French and Spanish lost 22 ships, the
British, none. The British commander Admiral Lord Nelson died
late in the battle, by which time he had ensured his place as
Britain's greatest naval hero. The British victory
spectacularly confirmed the naval supremacy that Britain had
established during the 18th century. After the battle, the
Royal Navy remained unchallenged until the rise of Imperial
Germany prior to the First World War, 100 years later.
However, by the time it was fought, Napoleon had abandoned his
plans to invade southern England and instead was successfully
fighting in Germany against Britain's allies. The 200th
anniversary of the battle was marked by Trafalgar 200
celebrations in Britain. It is a wonderful composition and is
in perfect condition, nicely framed and ready to hang.
K W Burton was born in
1943. In 1999 he was voted the best landscape watercolour
artist by the trade magazine Art Business. He is famous for
doing a large range of signed limited addition prints which go
under the name of the Counties of Great Britain. His original
works can be found at selected galleries throughout the United
Kingdom as well as in America, France and Australia. Burton is
one of the most highly regarded watercolourists of the late
20th century and this superb River Thames watercolour fully
demonstrates his incredible talent. This painting's
composition and detailing is of the very highest standard and
this original and highly collectable watercolour would grace
any home or collection.

Clipper

An
Original Oil Painting on Canvas by Ken Hammond.
Description:
A superb marine painting by this gifted marine painter. This
would make an excellent addition to any private collection.
The picture and frame are in good condition and the picture is
ready to hang.
Ken Hammond was born in
Surrey in 1948. He is a self-taught artist greatly influenced
by the Dutch Masters and the Norwich School of Painters. His
love of the coastal scenery and old ships has brought him to
the South Coast where he now lives. As a child he spent
holidays with his uncle who was a fisherman on the River Fowey
in Cornwall. This is where the influence of estuary and
harbour scenes in his paintings has come from. He has been a
member of the crew on the sailing ship "Sir Winston
Churchill", this helped with the understanding of the
rigging and handling of the older working vessels, which
features strongly in his paintings. He likes to work in all
painting mediums and is always trying to achieve new and
different styles.

Excellent
Unique Surrealistic Painting by Robert Deyber

Was On Cloud Nine"
This
piece comes with a certificate of value for $3,200
This
piece is part of Robert's self-portrait series !
Original and unique
surrealistic painting by Robert Deyber. Acrylic on heavy
gallery wrap canvas. Total size: 24"H x 36"W
(61cm x 91 1/2cm). Completed 2005. Title: "He
Was On Cloud Nine".
Description:
"Another of my favorite cliche's that I keep returning to
as I find more ways to interpret it." - Robert Deyber.
Quotes:
"To say I'm obsessed with this cliche is an
understatement. Of all the numbers why nine? When someone says
"I was on cloud nine." I think.
Well, what's so great about it? What's wrong with cloud three,
or 367 ? See ... I'm obsessed."
"This
series which borders on self portraits - has personal
emotional content and cuts to the core of everything that I
feel emotionally.
The need for solitude but not exclusion. The need for
intensity but not drama. All part of the complexity and range
and flight of the oh so human spirit."
"I
am intrigued by the visual imaginings which reside in the
realm between reality and fantasy."
"My work is highly narrative in nature and conveys a
dreamlike quality."
CLOUD
NINE
"The expression 'up on cloud nine' to describe a feeling
of euphoric exaltation is based on actual terminology used by
the U.S. Weather Bureau. Clouds are divided into classes and
each class is divided into nine types. 'Cloud nine' is the
cumulonimbus cloud that you often see building up in the sky
in a hot summer afternoon. It may reach 30,000 to 40,000 feet,
so if one is up on 'cloud nine,' one is high indeed."
Robert Deyber is a full
time professional American artist for over 25 years and has
owned two contemporary fine art galleries during that time of
which he sold to focus on his own work. His work is

substantially on the retail gallery market. Now that Robert

suppose for a moment that one is seeing a hitherto unknown
work by the master."

The poor humble pig. There are so many cliches about the pig

"The Best Part Of A Rose".
Description:
"One day I was visiting a friend and someone
showed up with a rose. They were gushing about how perfect it
was..so red! I couldn't take my eyes off the stem though.
The darn thing wouldn't be so great if not for the stem. The
thorns were so symmetrical, so sharp...so close to perfect.
You have to be careful with roses,
you don't just go up to it and grab it. You have to be very,
very careful or you may get stuck, and then you'll bleed...so
red! " - Robert Deyber.
"The
frame is a found object that was restored, and repainted- it's
not perfect, but it's not suppose to be, it's made of wood and
quite a heavy piece. It has a gold metallic finish and
has wire on the back for hanging". - Robert Deyber.

RARE
SET OF SILKSCREEN PRINTS "BULLFIGHT" PAUL BLANCA.

Description:
"SANGRE DE TORO"(1991) by
Paul Blanca (1954), set of 8 silk-screen prints with Bull’s
blood on 300 grams/m2 BFK rives (94 x 73cm) in a deluxe box.
Poem by Koos Dalstra. Size: each 35 x 45cm or 45 x 35cm. In an
edition of 35. (number 29) The
series of prints by Paul Blanca is exceptional for obvious
reasons. Blanca, who had lived and worked in Spain for two
years, had while there, become obsessed by bullfighting and kept
up with all the "ferias" (local seasonal festivities)
to take photographs. He found it intriguing that when the "corrida"(bullfight)
was at an end, the bulls’meat was served in restaurants but
nothing was done with the blood- it is the fluid of life, after
all. Blanca investigated whether blood could be used as
silk-screen printing ink. The treated blood was used for the
Sangre de Toro portfolio, based on Blanca's photos. Pressing the
ink through the screen only once produced no more than a light
pink colour, and in the end 35 'pulls' where needed to achieve
the darkest tone in the pictures, creating a visible relief. The
series forms a high point on the periphery of Blanca's
photographic work. For the "Afficionados" (devotees)
it is a must, for opponents of bullfighting it is also a
monument of beauty.
Quotes:
"Blanca is my only
competitor" - Robert Mapplethorpe (famous photographer)
"..he reaches a kind of
poetry that very few photographers have." - Bill Katz (New
York designer and collector of photography) in "True
colors" - The real life of the art world by Anthony
Haden-Guest (p.228 - 237) The
book ''True colors'' is the most talked-about book on art since
''The Shock of the New''. The
whole set of prints is in excellent condition. Each print is
pencil signed by the artist: 29/35 Paul Blanca.
Blanca is a provocative and
controversial artist, for that reason he was a suspect in the
attack on Rob Scholte in 1993. But was found innocent. Dalstra
studied criminology, and is now a dedicated poet and writer.
