A truly magnificent design featuring a ghost and a fox spirit making love to a passionated woman from the series 'Shunshoku Tamazoroi' (An Assortment of Pleasure in Spring) published in the Kaei period in three volumes, illustrated by Kunisada and with text from Shotei Kinsui (1795-1862) writing under the pen name of Nyokan.

The first volume of this series was entitled 'Yokai no maki' (Volume of Ghosts), the second 'Kamegaya no maki' (Volume of Kamegaya) and the third 'Dokomachi no maki' (Volume of Doko Town).

Kunisada's comic interpretation of the famous foxfire legend from the series 'Shunshoku Tamazoroi' (An Assortment of Pleasure in Spring) published in the Kaei period in three volumes, illustrated by Kunisada and with text from Shotei Kinsui (1795-1862) writing under the pen name of Nyokan. The first volume of this series was entitled 'Yokai no maki' (Volume of Ghosts), the second 'Kamegaya no maki' (Volume of Kamegaya) and the third 'Dokomachi no maki' (Volume of Doko Town).

During a rain storm at New Year's Eve a fox procession is on their way to a particular tree near Oji Inari Shrine to receive new orders for the coming year. The Japanese believed foxes had supernatural powers which was rooted deep in their minds and imaginations.
