Date: c. late 1810s. Size: 10 1/3" x 8 1/4" inches. Fine impression, color and very good condition.
Some minor staining, foxing, soiling, some very tiny holes, marks and flaws.
Wonderful printing details such as gauffrage and metallic pigments are added.

Famous shunga scene featuring a sexual encounter of two awabi (abalone) divers experimenting with a sea-sucumber.

A moving scene depicting a contemplative courtesan. Her shaved eyebrows were a custom at that time and it was considered to make women attractive. Although some believe it was to hide their natural expression. The courtean's lower lip has been applied with beni, a material extracted from flowers that looks green when it's dry but turns shining red when water is applied to it.
