Title: ‘Lovers andSleeping Husband.’ Fine early impression (with excellent use of metallic pigments and printing 
of the mosquito-netting), very good color and near fine condition. Minor marks and flaws only!

"...Kunisada also used this in a page of his ' Viewing Forms in the Four Seasons (Shiki no sugatami)', where the viewer sees a woman's head (and mind) still in bed with her rightful partner, while her genitals -- divided by the netting -- are outside (illus. 49). Although she is aware of what she does, the status of her sexual act, sectioned off from her head, seems dreamlike, for mental and bodily zones do not match. Pictorially, she is doing nothing wrong". "A humorous scene with a young adolescent observing the genitals of a sleeping courtesan by lifting up the blanket. For this design Kunisada was inspired by one of the great ukiyo-e masters of the 18th Century Katsukawa Shuncho (act.1780-1801) who designed a similar image in his book series ‘Ehon narubi ga oka’ (c.1790)."
