Genuine Japanese color woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). Shunga ( Erotic picture ). Two panels. Size of each sheet is 10 2/3″ x 8 1/3″ inches (27 x 21 1/5cm). Total size is 21″ x 8 1/3″ inches (53 1/2 x 21 1/5cm). Carved and printed by Yuuya Shimoi. Date: 2019. Pencil and stamp signed by the artist. Edition of only 75. Printed on washi paper with nice ink bleed through visible on the backside of the prints. Fine impression, color and condition. Flawless state !

Finally, for the first time in over 220 years a magnificent woodblock reproduction of Hokusai's iconic double-page print design from the Erotic Book of Conjugal Eddies (Ehon futamigata)-series issued c.1803 depicting the mesmerizing scene in which a bandit dressed as a ninja plays a sadistic game with a married couple.

In amusing contrast to the crumpy men standing in the rain outside, the man inside has a better deal with his
female spouse soaping his penis. The designs of this series all point to a specific station of the 53 Stations
of the Tokaido as featured in Hiroshige's eponymous series. This is most probably station Tsuchiyama-juku
(the 49th Station). Therefore Shozan is also called 'the prime topographer of sex.' "

The magnificent printing techniques such as the various gauffrage patterns, gold and silver pigments used in this series are virtually unmatched in shunga."

Chuban yoko-e size: 10 1/3� x 7 4/5� inches. From an untitled series Fine impression, near fine color and condition.
Virtually full size. Slightly backed, very minor marks and flaws only. This print has been exceptionally well preserved with
fresh colors.

�A young girl on the second floor of a house is disturbed in her sewing work by a hairy intruder with a shaggy beard. We can only see part of the girl s face, but it might very well be that she is not amused, and that this furry man is an uninvited burglar who as forced the luscious sewer to have sex with him. She is not embracing him at all moreover, her left hand seems to be pushing him away. The girl�s unfinished needlework can be seen in the bottom right: a haribako (sewing box, lit. �needle box�) with a pin cushion on top, a striped piece of cloth, a pair of scissors and a ruler. The brown spots on the orange-colored staircase at the bottom left of the image are caused by oxidation of the colour pigments.�

This is one of the earliest examples in the shunga genre that features an explicit rape !

The style of the Kon kurabe tama no ase �series is also reminiscent of Utagawa Toyokuni I, and could very well
be a later work by him�
